Bold Training to be the Best

Reported October 2009

Setting up a new security control room can be one of life’s more challenging tasks, particularly if British Standard accreditation is being sought. Updating an existing facility and managing operators’ reluctance to say goodbye to equipment they have grown comfortable with is also not without its headaches. Careful project management and preparation can make the transition process as smooth as possible but, as client’s expectations have grown, complexity in the control room has also increased. Once a system goes live, this has to be matched by the performance of the operator.

Realistically, no matter how easy a system has been designed to use - and ease of use is a key design objective for all Bold products - if a software application is to be most effective, a learning process must take place. The quality of service delivery expected in the monitoring market is difficult to achieve without the right level of specialist training. As a supplier of control room systems over many years, Bold has developed a series of training programmes for all levels of operators and system administrators with the objective of achieving maximum benefit and efficiency.

"There was no pressure & could always go over if struggling to pick up first time", Control Room Operator, Bradford City Council

Focusing on a combination of generic control room training and specific guidance on how a monitoring system is used in live situations, Bold training takes the guess work out of alarm handling. Working on the principal that if our clients are successful, then so will we be, students are also trained how to improve their monitoring skills and raise customers service levels. The “academic theory” philosophy is avoided in favour of a hands on professional approach to give staff confidence and capability.

Content covered includes the essentials of database input and configuration, maintenance and alarm handling. Additional sessions are available for configuring and managing Bold web and mobile data access, instruction for managing MultiView CCTV and the Gemini Maintenance application. Standard content is combined with client specific elements, according to the scope of the project, to ensure that content remains strictly relevant at all times.

"Most liked the hands on visual aids", Control Room Operator, Corus

Delivery of courses is flexible either on site or at Bold’s training room in Warrington and can be either full or half day sessions. All training materials are provided with the trainer pitching the level according to the existing skill capabilities of the trainees. At the end of the course, the trainee leaves with a Bold Operator’s Guide, an Operator’s Training Certificate and the confidence and knowledge to be the best in the monitoring industry.

A recent enhancement for our clients is the introduction of Bold Online training, supplementing conventional class training. These are up to one hour workshops focusing on specific system areas and they provide valuable refresher training on system functionality. They are therefore most valuable for those who have already had classroom training and have some operational experience. Bold Online also provides an opportunity to experience new Gemini feature releases and modules.
