Lone Worker Protection

Integrated Monitoring Solution

24/7 Technical Support
Lone Worker Protection

The Bold Gemini Lone Worker system provides a complete protection solution for commercial monitoring service providers and inhouse organisations.   The system provides a fast and accurate location fix when an alert is raised and allows the operator to listen in to the audio to verify the activation.  Using the Bold Locator smartphone App or device such as BoldSafe, the user’s location, voice and SOS message is communicated to the Gemini alarm monitoring software as a high priority alarm.  The voice call is automatically answered with instant recording and logging.  The operator can listen to both recorded and live video to verify the incident, with full two-way speech where supported by the device.

GPS co-ordinates are transmitted when the app or device is activated, allowing response services to identify and, if necessary, track the user’s location.  The Lone Worker Solution is fully integrated with Gemini alarm and CCTV and can be handled at the same operator workstation.

Responses may be automated, for example, by generating a SMS or email message to a co-worker or, where an attack has been verified, the operator can contact the Police for immediate response. The ACPO Unique Reference Number scheme for obtaining Police response and false alarm management is fully supported.  Bold Locator also supports geo-spatial geofences and asset pairing to provide the highest levels of protection.

Our solutions are designed to signal and send audio directly to the monitoring control room rather than to third party web sites, which can be slow and unstable.  An important consideration is ongoing licencing and mobile tariff costs.  Bold systems are configured to minimise false alarms and potentially costly SMS signalling.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT LONE WORKER MONITORING

What is a Lone Worker monitoring system?

A Lone Worker monitoring system allows the user to call for help in an emergency, whether it be as a result of a personal attack, accident or health issue.  In many situations it is not safe or appropriate to use a phone in the conventional way, so smart phone apps and dedicated devices are used instead.  The control room operator who receives the message can assess the situation and provide a response for the lone worker.

Who can provide Lone Worker monitoring?

Many commercial service providers, and organisations with their own control room operations, offer a system for monitoring Lone Workers.  They will often already have experience of handling emergency activations from remote alarm and CCTV systems. Using the Bold Gemini platform, it is possible to process all types of alarm events at an integrated workstation, including lone workers.

What do I need to get started?

The most essential requirement is lone worker monitoring software which can receive alerts and enable an operator to handle them effectively. Bold provide the full technical solution for this along with its industry leading Gemini software.

Are there any special legal or licencing requirements that need to be met before offering a Lone Worker monitoring system?

There are no legal or licencing requirements in the UK.  The essential consideration is that whatever system or service used should be stable, effective, well proven and fully supported.  Processes should be established which cover the various aspects of the service offered.

Does my control room need to be accredited to BS8484 for Lone Worker monitoring?

The BSI have published standard BS8484 which is a useful guide to lone worker monitoring systems though accreditation is not mandatory.  Accreditation to the standard enables the control room to contact police using the URN process rather than use the 999 system.

What happens if a Lone Worker raises a false alarm?

The audio monitoring verification process integrated with the lone worker software filters out false alarms at the receiving stage.  The operator will listen in and make a judgement based on the agreed handling protocol and audio activity.  Consequently, and unlike many types of automated alarm systems, this means that very few false alarms are passed to the police.

Where can I get further information?

The Suzy Lamplugh Trust offers useful Lone Worker guidance and the British Security Industry Association also offers guidance.
